2010: Odyssey Two

The movie came out in theaters, and I was thrilled to see it. But there was no captioning, and this one had a lot more talking than 2001. I was lost. I could follow the action and the division among the crew based on what I saw visually, and the special effects were cool, but the real story was going right past me.

Unlike the non-verbal storytelling in 2001, I missed most of what was actually happening in 2010. The book came to the rescue. I understood the story 100 percent once I read it, and I enjoyed it. Not a five star for me though. I've always disliked how writers plot one country against another, and this book leans into the tension between the USA and the Soviet Union.

I really liked the plot with the monoliths multiplying and spreading across Jupiter. Bowman shows up and warns the crew they need to leave right away. Then Jupiter gets consumed and turns into a new star.

I watched the movie again later once it came with captioning, and that time it was enjoyable. Still, the book was the best. I reread it a couple of times over the years.
