Hunting for the Pieces

A large pile of mixed screws, bolts, and hardware parts

Hunting for the Pieces

Somewhere in here, the right piece. 2021.
Visual description

A dense pile of mixed hardware fills the frame, screws, bolts, washers, nuts, and small mechanical parts jumbled together in metallic silver, black, and brass tones. A few plastic bags and loose wrapping are scattered among the pieces, along with a small tool and a length of wire.

One thing I didn’t expect about building this site?

It does take a long time to find and compile my own material.

Before I can post something, I usually have to dig through old journals, random notes, folders of photos, and half-forgotten files. I know they’re there. I just don’t always remember where "there" is.

Some entries are in notebooks. Some are in photo libraries with hundreds of images that all look the same at first glance.

Putting a post together isn’t just writing it. It’s tracking down the pieces and deciding what still fits.

It takes time. But, I kind of like that part too because it reminds me I’ve been living a lot more than I’ve been publishing.

It makes me wonder how much time we all spend in a lifetime looking for things. A specific screw. Lost keys. A certain photo. Even our own life stories.
