A Perfect PBJ
Visual description
A package of Pepperidge Farm Farmhouse sourdough bread, a jar of Nature's Promise organic triple berry fruit spread, and a jar of Peter Pan honey roast creamy peanut butter sit above two slices of bread on a paper towel, one spread with peanut butter and one with berry jam.
I've been a PBJ guy my entire life. Doesn't matter how many other sandwiches exist in the world, I could eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich every single day and never get tired of it. This is not up for debate.
The best one starts with the right ingredients. Sourdough bread, Peter Pan honey roast peanut butter, and a good berry spread. Full disclosure, I normally skip the organic stuff, but the store was out of the regular fruit spread and this was the only option left. Sacrifices were made.
Here's how it comes together, one slice at a time.
Ingredients
- Pepperidge Farm Farmhouse Sourdough
- Peter Pan Honey Roast Creamy Peanut Butter
- Any Berry Fruit Spread
Instructions
- Grab two slices of sourdough. Try not to eat one before you even start. This step has a high failure rate.
- Load up a spoon with fruit spread and drop it onto one slice like you're not going to regret how much you used.
- Spread it around. Corner to corner. No dry spots. Dry spots are a war crime.
- Open the peanut butter jar and stare into it for a second like it holds the answers to life. It does not. Just get some on the knife.
- Spread the peanut butter on the other slice. Go heavy. This is not the time for restraint.
- Optional: draw a heart in the peanut butter. Purely for presentation. It does not affect the taste, but it does affect your confidence.
- Put the two slices together. Resist the urge to admire your work for too long, it's going to get eaten regardless.
- Take a bite. Feel something close to joy.
- Serve with pretzel sticks, because a sandwich this good deserves a sidekick.
