Twelve Years, Two Cancers

Life Detour
Visual description
Color portrait taken at night. I am standing in the middle of a road beneath red traffic lights. The image has a warm orange tone and a distressed, textured filter that gives it a worn appearance. I am wearing glasses and a T-shirt that reads “New York City.” I am holding a black sign with the word “DETOUR” and an arrow pointing to the right. The road stretches behind me with trees and houses faintly visible in the dark.
Battling cancer twice over twelve years was a difficult journey that shifted my path from routine to survival.
These two unexpected detours strained my physical, emotional, and mental strength.
Despite uncertain outcomes, rigorous treatments with chemotherapy, a bone marrow stem cell transplant, radiation, and surgeries have allowed me to live longer.
Although I’m still struggling and not fully healed, I now have a greater appreciation for life’s fragility and a renewed sense of purpose. This life detour has tested my endurance, hope, and the support of my family and friends.
