Visual description

A turned wood lamp stand with a slender waisted column that widens into a flared foot. A small triangular reddish patch of a different wood sits near the base of the column. It rests on a lathe workbench.

I turned this stand on the lathe for a stained glass lamp I have coming, still in the works. Partway through, I accidentally cut a piece off the bottom of the shaft. To fix it, I glued in a piece of a different wood. It ended up adding a nice bit of color contrast I hadn't planned on. I kept shaping the curve, checking the diameter as I went, then sanded and finished it once the shape felt right. It's two pieces, the base and the column, held together with the lamp rod and nuts running through the center.
